Machinability

M1 steel bars are machinable alloys with a medium machinability. M1 molybdenum high-speed tool steels are forged at temperatures ranging from 1093 to 927°C (2000 to 1700°F). They should not be forged at temperatures lower than 927°C (1700°F).

High speed M1 steel bars are annealed at a temperature of 857°C (1575°F). They're then cooled in a furnace at a rate of less than 4°C (40°F) each hour.

M1 molybdenum high-speed tool steels are tempered for a long period at 565°C (1050°F) to allow full heating and cooling in air. To attain the greatest results and create a component with a hardness of 63 HRC, the tempering procedure might be conducted a second time.
